Avatar: The Last Airbender: Book 2: Earth

In my last mini-review, I said that re-watching season 1 would be like visiting old friends. Well, I didn’t have to re-watch season 1. I just watched season 2 and got to visit with old friends and get new stories.

I love so much about this series. I love how the story is unfolding. I can’t say I’ve never seen these story lines before or never seen this type of character growth. However, each time the storytellers are presented with a choice, they take the mature path. It’s so satisfying.

Maybe I’m not being fair. It’s possible that the story is told so organically, and each storytelling decision feels so natural that it’s comfortable and right. Of course, things are turning out this way. That’s why it doesn’t feel original. I’m so in tune with going along for the ride that I don’t even realize I’m being led. I also don’t want to discredit the fact that the series does surprise me, and it’s a thrill to go down unexpected routes. Yes, I’m so into this series that I feel comfortable using the word ‘thrill.’

Momo is my favorite character. He’s adorable, quirky and loving. You could argue that since he’s a chirping side-kick pet he is the most expendable of the group. However, the genius of this series is that you could just as easily argue the opposite and win. This little character is relevant not just because he’s so lovable to the audience, but because he is an essential element to the main characters’ dynamic.

And he’s adorable.
